From Redcastle along the River Urr, through Glen of Spottes, Redcastle Standing
Stone or to the Motte of Urr.Excavations here suggest that this timber and
earthwork castle was destroyed inn 1174 by Gilbert the son of the King of the

There
are many places to fish but I shall only detail
the Urr as it is the nearest…the season
is from 25 February to 30 November, salmon, sea
and brown trout. Bank fishing, spinning, fly
and worm. No Sunday fishing. A permit can be
obtained from McCowan & Son 01556 610270 in Castle Douglas. They also have info on all local fishing. |
